The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) role is relatively new in the corporate world, with its origins
dating back to the late 1990s. The role has evolved significantly since then, and it now plays a crucial
role in the success and security of organizations.
History of the CISO Role
The CISO role can be traced back to the late 1990s when businesses began to realize the importance of
securing their digital assets. As the use of the internet and digital technologies increased, so did the risks
associated with cybersecurity threats.
