Issues Associated With Data Backup and Recovery
DATA BACKUP AND RECOVERY

Of all the assets that a business owns, data is the most valuable. But not many businesses
recognize this thus they are not taking appropriate measures to ensure that their data is secure,
fully protected and that it is available to them at all times.
Businesses realize the importance of backups and so have gotten quite good in creating them.
However, there are very few businesses that actually a disaster recovery plan. While having
backups is good and vital, having a recovery plan is even more important.
Otherwise, it is like you are asking to get your data
lost or stolen without a way of getting them back
from your backup. On that note, knowing the issues
associated with data backup and recovery is the
first step in creating an efficient recovery plan or
strengthening your existing plan.
First of all, data disaster can be large or small. It
may not affect the business’ operation at all or it
can topple down the whole business. Big or small,
your disaster recovery plan should be for the worst case scenario.
Issue #1: No Disaster Recovery Plan
Often, businesses have backups but not a disaster
recovery plan. They may have the right technology for
recovery but they don’t know how to use it. In this
situation, you need to have calm head and a solid,
written plan detailing what you need to do to recover the
lost data.
Issue #2: The Plan is Incorrect or Insufficient
For efficient execution of the plan, you can have it as brief as possible but it has to be clear and
includes all the important information. A good disaster recovery plan has account for alternate
situations and must address common disaster scenarios.
