Another technique used is to upload movie files inside a file container (.rar, .zip). As soon as the
container is extracted, the infected files start spreading around your hard drive.
How to remove a rootkit: Most rootkits can be removed by using a good antivirus scan or even
using an extra anti-malware software to ensure the hard drive is really clean. Norton,
Kaspersky, McAfee, Avast are amongst the antiviruses which get updated on a daily basis,
ensuring they can catch and isolate your rootkit infected files.
If not, using software such as Malwarebytes Anti Malware to scan and delete the infected files
should do the trick.
How to avoid infection from a rootkit: Generally speaking, keeping on the safe side of things
and not downloading any media files illegally is the best practice.
Using only safe and reputable sources and downloading those files from a legal / paid
alternative will ensure that the files you are downloading are not infected.
Legal, safe and reputable sites have no interest in infecting your computer so stick to those.
